Collaborative Problem Solving

– making a difference through positive change

Develop your creative tool kit to overcome obstacles and challenges, winning hearts and minds, through innovative problem solving techniques.

This module has been designed for those who are required to solve problems and implement innovative sustaining solutions that improve performance.

Creative thinking makes problem solving fun. This module provides the tools and techniques to substantially enhance personal performance in both creative thinking and solving problems. It will illustrate how to solve problems through practical exercises and team work. At the end of the module, delegates will have a tool kit and self confidence to facilitate a seven step problem solving model and generate innovative ideas and solutions to problems.

Key areas covered on this module are:

Identifying and describing a problem – Identifying and defining the actual issue to be resolved is the first step in the problem solving process. Done correctly, it saves time and effort in directing resources effectively to implement solutions to real problems

Gathering and interpreting information – Analysing causes means looking at the bigger picture whilst examining the details and potential reason why things are not functioning as they should. A range of brainstorming techniques are implemented allowing delegates to drill down to the root cause of problems.

Evaluating options and agreeing upon the best solution – Brainstorming innovative ideas and possible solutions with the key stakeholders is fundamental to gaining buy-in and commitment to any change and/or improvement. A range of decision making techniques are practised to arrive at the best possible solution to be implemented.

Implementing and communicating the decision – Implementing the agreed solution with key stakeholders and monitoring both the improvement and success is fundamental in empowering those involved to see things through to completion.

Module Preparation
Identify a current outstanding problem that is down to you to deal with. Ideally it is a problem that may be associated with a performance issue, managing a change or something that requires improving. Your problem should also ideally involve other people. Simply define:

  • What you think the problem is
  • The impact it is having (in measurable terms)
  • Who is involved?
  • The benefit in solving the problem (in measurable terms)

The purpose of the above preparation is to actually work on a real problem that currently exists, and benefit from proposed ideas and solutions that will be generated by the group and define an implementation plan to resolve the problem.
